Wednesday 23rd June Mizen Head

Breakfast this morning is at 08:45 in the bar! The third different room in the four meals we have had. I am not impressed and make my feelings known at reception.

I am assured this is very unusual and doesn't normally happen but they are just so busy today. Still not impressed!

I explain that I am thinking of returning here next year but will not come back if we are messed about with our dining. I am assured this wouldn't happen again and when I asked for that in writing they said that would be no problem. I am not sure and am a bit undecided. The rest of the hotel is excellent.

As it took so long to set up it is 09:00 when we are allowed into the bar and then everyone has to queue for the buffet. We were supposed to be going out at 09:45 but that will have to be changed to 10:00 at the earliest.
We finally depart at 10:00 for our drive to Mizen Head, the most south westerly part of Ireland and close to the famous Fastnet Rock and Lighthouse.
The journey is narrow to start with and becomes narrower the closer we are to Mizen Head! Some of the scenery is once again stunning and we see some of the lovliest beaches you could wish to see.
At Mizen Head there is a visitor centre and cafe. Most of the group visit the centre at a cost of €3 per person.
There is also a bridge that connects the mainland to the huge rock that offers fantastic views but sadly this is closed at the moment for essential building work.
This is a lovely spot and if the bridge was open it would have been perfect but we still enjoy our visit.
We are due to leave at 12:45 but are two ladies missing. I go and have a look and find them in the cafe writing postcards! Once they are back on the coach I am about to leave when one of the ladies realises she has left her camera in the cafe!
Finally we are away and the drive back is no less stunning and looks completely different from the way in.

Todays trip is only a half day and we are back in Bantry by 14:10.
This is quite handy as England are playing Slovenia in the World Cup at 15:00!
Hooray! England win 1-0 and are through to the last sixteen where they will play Germany.
America also won with a last minute goal which means England will play on Sunday as group runners up. If they had won the group they would be playing on Saturday evening.
This is a bit of a bummer for me as we shall be driving home on Sunday!

Our dinner this evening is at 20:00 and I decide to give it a miss in favour of a couple of pints in a old fashioned pub and then a curry in the only Indian restaurant in town.
Talk about Billy Nomates, I am the only customer in the restaurant! Being the only customer you would have thought the the waiter would have been happy to see me but he was a miserable so and so who didn't seem to want me there.
Maybe that is why the restaurant is empty. Another couple do come in before I leave so he has bit of a rush on!
