We depart the hotel at 08:00 and join a very quiet motorway towards the border at Aachen.
After a stop near Antwerp we are well ahead of time for our 14;42 shuttle. That soon changes when we are near Ghent as the traffic builds up and we are caught in some long traffic jams. The start of the holiday season!
The last long jam is caused by a car that as we approach looks like it has a puncture but on closer inspection the nearside front wheel is missing! Whoever did the last service is going to popular!
The plan was to have lunch at the terminal in Calais but because of the delays we can only stop for 20 minutes.
I have a choice to make - buy Joyce her fags or feed my hungry tummy! I buy something to eat and as it is so quiet I just have time to buy the ciggies.
Our shuttle leaves on time and we have a trouble free journey home. It is nice coming home a bit earlier and I am back in the yard by six.
I have really enjoyed this tour and look forward to returning in the future.
