Bruges Thursday 12 May 2011

I am at the coach at 09:00 and parked outside of the hotel at 09:30 ready for a 10:00 departure. We have Porterage and the service is very efficient unlike a lot of hotels. The cases appear exactly when I want them and do not take long to load.
We are away on time and wind our way out of the city to join the main ring road at one of the many gates surrounding the city.
As we wait in a queue for a green light I can see about seven boats of varying sizes waiting to come through the bridge we are about to go over. The lights go green and the few cars in front of me move off while I deliberately hesitate to be rewarded with the bridge lights going to red. I stay where I am at the front of the queue, switch the engine off and watch as the bridge is raised and the boats pass by the front of us. What a lovely sight that you don’t often see.
And the sun is shining again.
The drive to Ostend takes half an hour, well 35 minutes by the time I have taken a wrong turn and realised my error!
Ostend is looking particularly pretty today with the sun out and the boats in the harbour and they have tidied up the promenade since I was last here.
