Black Forest Friday 01 July 2011

Sadly we depart for home today.
The cases are brought down to me as the passengers are enjoying breakfast and it doesn't take long to load the twenty cases.
Anne Marie kindly gives me a bottle of wine to take home which on top of the beer I haven't had to pay for is very generous of her. I like it here.
After breakfast and before leaving we have the obligatory group photo taken on the steps of the hotel.
We are away by 09;00.
I am going back a more staightforward way than the journey down (but only 20 miles shorter) as we drive to Offenburg, across the Rhine and into France at Strasbourg. I use the motorway for a few miles before once again coming off and taking the D1004, which used to be the N4, and the town of Saverne where we shall have a lunch stop.
We are here by 11:00 and as I approach the centre I cannot remember where to drop them so I pull over close to the centre, which in inaccesable to coaches, and let them wander off for a couple of hours.
I then carry on around the corner and see a sign for bus parking and all of a sudden I remember! I park up at the other end of the town and go off in search of the passengers to tell them to meet me in a different place! Saverne is mainly one long street lined with shops, cafes and restaurants andas it isn't too busy I manage to see everybody with the new information.
We are all going to meet close to the lock that is on the Marne-Rhine canal that flows through the town.
A very pleasant couple of hours are spent here before rejoining the motorway and our overnight hotel in Liege.
I wanted to fill up with fuel and thought it might be a good idea to do this as we drive through Luxembourg but all of the service areas we pass are about half a dozen lorries deep waiting to fill up. I wonder why?!!
No problem, there is a service area soo nafter the border in Belgium and we pull into there.
This must be the only service area in Belgium without a fuel station! And the next one isn't until we near Liege about an hour and a half away.
As we near Liege the traffic becomes very heavy so I put off fuel until tomorrow.
We arrive at the hotel just as Andy Murray begins his Wimbledon semi final against Rafael Nadal. He loses!

Jamie, the holiday was great thank you. I agree with one ladies comment - `We were like one big happy family! Being part of the Cabin Crew was fun - when Colin disappeared into the cupboard - I thought to myself `where the hell is he going` - it was so funny!! - nothing like having a bit of entertainment on the coach for the rest of the passengers!! Hotel and food was lovely - good choice. Our excursions were excellent too - the trip on the boat to get close to the Rhine Falls was brilliant - no good if you wanted to keep your hair dry though!! I wonder who enjoyed the Kit Kats - you know who you are!! Thanks again, Wendy.

PS If you are desperate for the loo I suggest you wait until you get off the coach - the lights went out twice when I used it!! - I wonder who switched them off!!!

Hi bloggers, great first trip of this kind, lovely part of the world, the scenery was outstanding, will never capture on film. Loved the trips out, not so keen on the getting there and back, don't do boats too well, and my ankles/feet objected too, but heh ho got have a little discomfort when you are enjoying yourself. First class chauffer, excellent drink service and great entertainment. Accommodation was good, along with the food. Best of all was the company, takes all sorts, they say, very mixed and lovely bunch of people. Thanks again to Jamie for making it such a great trip. The Shopper (I am not usually)

Ref. Blog wednesday 29 June how did Jamie know he had a hairy arse passenger on board!!! The holiday was up to Jamie`s very high standard, it was one big laugh from start to finish. The only down side it was over too quickly. The onboard entertainment was great, it broke the journey time up. Lets have more of these holidays please Jamie with the onboard entertainment
