Danube Cruise Tuesday 04 October 2011
We have been on the go a week now and the time has flown by. This time last week we were on our way to our first night in Bruhl.
I have an early breakfast because our city tour of Bratislava departs at 08:30.
I haven’t been to Bratislava before and have been looking forward to seeing the Slovakian capital all trip.
We meet our guide whose name is Uri but that translates to George and he is a giant of a man. I heard someone say he is 2m 2cm tall which is just shy of 6’ 7’’! And he is a big unit with it.
He is also an excellent guide with the most wonderful sense of humour and makes things I normally find tiresome interesting. A great tour of a city I would like to come back to and see more of.
The tour finishes at the Opera House, in the centre of the city, at 11:00 and it is only a short walk back to the ship which departs at 11:45 for Vienna.
It is another lovely sunny day and I spend most of the afternoon on deck reading, along with all but one of our group.
I manage to doze off for half an hour and am sure I have been snapped! In fact I know as Colin shows me his photo of me resting.
Coffee and cake are taken at 16:00 before our dinner at 18;00. I will need to get back in the gym next week and lose all the weight I have put on this week. It is all eating and lounging about in the sun!
Some of the group are going on an excursion into Vienna this evening to see a classical concert in one of the gorgeous concert halls of the city.
There is also another excursion to a folk evening but none of my group are booked on that.
I go for a walk along the quayside looking for a quiet bar but find nothing open so back at the ship I decide to have a drink in the Lido bar which is situated at the rear of the ship. There are only a handful of people here and it is a real pleasure to sit outside with a beer looking at the lights of Vienna in the distance.
