Liss Historical Northumberland Sunday 15 July 2012

Sunday 15 July 2012

An early start today – 09:30! I can get used to this!
We are met by a lady, Janet, from the Morpeth Antiquarian Society and she and a colleague are going to give the group a walking tour of Morpeth that includes tea and biscuits with the mayor.
We are away on time and ten minutes later are dropping five people off at St James Church before taking the rest of the group to the leisure centre. I leave them here and promise to be back by 13:30 for our afternoon visit to Cragside, a National Trust property half an hour away.
I go to the bus station where there is a dropping off bay for coaches and hope to stay there as I can’t imagine too many coaches coming to Morpeth on a Sunday morning.
I’m right and can stay in the bay all morning.
Morpeth is a nice little town with the shops showing a bit of character and it is spotlessly clean. And the coffee is good too!
I pick them all up at 13:30 and we drive to Cragside, a very pretty drive I might add. The approach to Cragside is very impressive and you could be in Scotland. You can immediately see why it is called Cragside as both the house and gardens appear to be built into the side of the craggy rock face.
Wow!
I don’t walk the gardens but do have a walk around the house and it is great. Another place I would like to come back to and explore at my leisure with more time on my hands.
I think the setting has got to be one of the best I have ever seen and I feel good being here.
We are away at 17:00 and thirty five minutes later are back at the hotel with plenty of time before dinner at 19:00.
I want to do a little bit of work and write this blog so sit in the noisy bar (another wedding party) and have my dinner and a pint. The noisy people soon disappear to their room and I am sat all on my Jack. Nothing wrong with that!
