Royal Scotland Wednesday 13 June 2012

Wednesday 13 June

We are away at 09:00 today for our journey over the Glenshee pass to Royal Deeside and Balmoral.

I am looking forward to today as I love driving over mountains and enjoy the scenery of these monsters of nature.

The sun is out as we leave but once we are high up the rain starts and then once down the other side it brightens up again.

The ride is as lovely as expected and we make good time which allows for a half hour break in Braemar before going to Balmoral.

Time for an enjoyable coffee in the excellent Fife Arms Hotel before moving off to see the queen.

On arriving at the ticket office at Balmoral I pay my dues and am then directed to the drop off point by the castle itself. All very impressive.

You can’t actually go in the castle bar one exhibition room but what you see and how it is arranged is very good.

Once again there is such a lovely atmosphere and it is a pleasure to be here.

We leave here at 14:00 for the two minute ride to Crathies Church, where the royal family traditionally visit on Christmas Day, for our own visit. A lovely church but very plain in a glorious setting.

From here we drive to Ballater which is always nice to visit and we have the time today so why not! Also gives me time to top up the fuel which will see me home.

The journey back is a reverse of this morning though no less stunning and with very little traffic is a pleasure to drive.

I have really enjoyed today.

I have a day free from driving tomorrow so have decided to take myself out for the evening with a very nice looking Indian restaurant next door proving irresistible!

I had a nice meal but spilt a great lump of madras sauce down the front of my favourite shirt!
