Dover NADFAS Monday 17 September 2012

Today I am off to sunny Dover for a 6 day break with the local NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Society) (I think!!) group.
I took them to Holland and The Hague last year which was a great trip but this year they are staying a bit closer to home and visiting Dover with trips out into the Kent and Sussex countryside.
These tours are organised by Neil Dobinson, ably abetted by Janetta his wife, and they are always a delight to drive. Neil and Janetta put a lot of effort into the planning and execution of their holidays and all of this only makes my job easier.
I am very much a steerer again this week and can relax in the knowledge that I only have the bus to look after not the folk!
We only have one pick up at the Festival Hall and from here make our way to Leeds Castle. This beautiful castle is located in magnificent grounds and with the clear sunny day we have it is glorious.
The only problem here is the coach park is on ground that has not been tarmaced and is very dusty especially when another vehicle pulls in or out, and especially when it is some knob driving too fast and showing off!
The group all spend a lovely  afternoon here before we make the relatively short drive to Dover and the Marina Hotel.
This recently refurbished hotel is on the seafront overlooking Dover's famous harbours'.
We drop off at the back of the hotel as it is going to be easier to unload the luggage with the lift close to the rear door.
Once unloaded I park in the nearby car park with a permit from the hotel allowing me to park for free.
I am pleasantly surprised with the hotel and I have a good room overlooking the sea, just what I like.
The meal times are flexible and I can eat whenever I like as long as the restaurant is open! The food tonight was excellent and after my dinner I go for a short stroll.
The promenade side of Dover is lovely with majestic building all clean and tidy and a wide promenade to walk along.
To reach the town you walk under and underpass and I haven't been here for many years. It hasn't changed it is still a dump! I feel a little uncomfortable walking the town centre with a few wino's hanging about. Not impressed and glad to back in the hotel for a nightcap!
