Tuscany Sunday 30 September 2012

A free day today which will be appreciated by passengers and drivers alike!
On these long trips we always like to have the first and last day at leisure allowing people the chance to relax after or before a long journey. Some will walk along the promenade and explore the shops and cafes that line it, others may stroll into town or around the harbour while others may just relax around the hotel, which I must say is very comfortable. The hotel also has its own private beach so the chance of catching a few rays is another possibility. It is nice today but not sure if it is sunbathing weather.
I am down for breakfast at 09:00 and join Barry, Jayne, Brian and Sheila on our little table. The buffet is good, especially for an Italian hotel where there is not always hot food. Scrambled egg and bacon are on the menu here along with a lovely cold buffet. The coffee is excellent too.
As I walk into the restaurant I can see Margaret and she is beaming! The case has been found! A lady found it in her room but she didn't come in until 02:00 so Margaret was reunited with her belongings at before breakfast.
As for the hotel searching every room, well!!
I am finalising all of the photographs for the summer holiday brochure and with the internet and e-mail I can send snaps through to the printers and receive brochure proofs at the click of a button. I spent the week in Lancashire finishing the text and now the photographs need to be done. Not a quick process when I have thousands to trawl through.
I also have to sit in one of the lobby's downstairs as there is no internet connection in my room. I don't mind this because the public areas downstairs are lovely, comfortable and airy. The hotel (Palace Hotel) is an old building and the decoration reflects this with the furniture and whole design in character with the hotel's age. I really like it here. The only downside at the moment is short sighted porters!! Checked every room my arse!!
I work for most of the morning before going for a walk in the sunshine.
The hotel is located on the seafront and the promenade itself is wider than the road. Along the promenade are many shops, mostly selling clothes and shoes, and also many bars, cafes and restaurants. Being a warm sunny Sunday has brought a lot of people out and it is great just watching the girls, boys and families parading up and down as if all on show. Being busy adds to the atmosphere. It is a delightful spot.
I walk all the way down to the harbour and then back along the beach paddling in the sea.
I meet up with Barry and Jayne for lunch and Brian also joins us. We are sat on the promenade outside of a restaurant that is also a book shop. Three of my favourite things are books, Italian food and Italian beer! Oh I also like Italian wine.....and sitting al fresco in the sun.......and good company. Seems to me I am sorted!
For my lunch I am not very adventurous with a pizza. But it was a lovely pizza! Another thing I love is Italian pizza!
After lunch I wander back to the hotel for a siesta (when in Rome and all that!) and a relaxing afternoon.
