Croatia Opatija Sunday 23 June 2013

Our longest day today (and the corresponding return journey) with a drive solely on German Autobahns and with that hundreds of roadworks! We think we have roadworks bad in England but you should drive through Germany, it is a nightmare. At least the lorries will be off the road today with it being Sunday.
It is very overcast this morning and becomes very wet as we proceed towards Stuttgart and Munich. I have a stop twenty minutes before Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit and then a nice lunch at Grublingham services before continuing.

I have Nicola on board this week so we are all kept fed and watered on our journey.
The drive around Munich always make me smile especially as we drive around the Allianz Arena, the scene of Chelsea’s greatest triumph!
Not long past this fantastic memory I stop for a last time to fuel up and empty bladders!
As I filling up a lady and gentleman approach me from the nearby Lucketts coach and say hello – it is one of my mum’s best friends from Aldershot Doreen Pound and her partner Derek. What a small world as I have known Doreen since I was a little kid! As we are talking the heavens open and it starts to rain torrentially and will keep raining this hard all the way to our next overnight stop in Austria.
We are staying at the lovely Mohrenwirt Hotel in Fuschl, a hotel we have used many times on our Winter Wonderland trips. It looks a bit like winter at the moment!
As we arrive at the hotel it is dry but the wind is getting up and the dark clouds are moving our way so it won’t be long before the rain catches us up.
I unload the cases just as the rain starts and it soon becomes as heavy as the past two hours. At least the hotel pick me up from the coach park to save me a swim back to the hotel!
There is a lovely vintage coach parking as I drive to my parking area and I manage a quick stop and snap!
Most of the group have a drink in the bar before dinner which is a good sign of everyone bonding and getting along together.

This really is a nice hotel and we enjoy a five course meal – Starter buffet, soup, salad buffet, main course and dessert buffet. Handsome!
