We go home today but no early starts this week.
I load the cases at 08:30 and we depart at 09:30 for the
short journey to Tiptree and the Wilkins Jam factory where there is a museum,
shop and cafe.
This is only twenty minutes from the hotel (21 minutes
after I have missed a turn ing twice on the first roundabout of the morning!)
and makes a lovely hours stop. Plenty of people bought jam and although soon after
breakfast most had a tea or coffee with some managing a scone! No it wasn’t me!
There has been a major accident on the A12 so I go across
country to avoid any hold ups which takes about half an hour longer but we’re
not in any rush today.
Our lunch stop is in Rochester and we arrive at 12:30 and
stay for a couple of hours. I think they all liked it here as the town is small
and flat with a castle, cathedral and river if you don’t want the shops. It is
also very coach friendly with good dropping off/picking up facilities and a
free coach park close by.
From here it is straight back to Guildford and our first
drop at the cathedral. I stop at the top allowing time for the loos if anyone
needs to go.
By the time I’m back in Petersfield it is 17;00 and soon after
am back at the yard finished for the day.
Two days at home before the long drive to Lake Bled.
I have enjoyed this short break to Suffolk as there has
been a lot of content to the tour with always something to do and it is one I
would repeat again gladly.
The hotel I’m not so sure about. The rooms are good, it
is convenient for the coach and major roads and I don’t mind being out of a
town (a lot of people prefer this) and the staff are all very helpful and
attentive but I didn’t like the food at dinner which I found okay at best and
on the last evening I really didn’t like the attitude of the duty manager to
our collection.
So I think it is back to Suffolk but staying elsewhere.
