Suffolk Tuesday 23 July 2013

Not too much to worry about today as I have a guide with me for the day.
The promised thunderstorms duly came overnight (although I didn’t hear them!) and it is still raining heavily when I get up.
By the time we are going out at 09:30 the rain has stopped but it is still very warm.
Anne is our guide for the day as we set off on a Suffolk towns and villages day.
We are making our way to Sudbury for our first stop and on the way Anne gives a very interesting commentary. Her diction is very good and she is very easy on the ear as well as being extremely knowledgeable on the local area. By a small quirk of fate she hails from West Sussex near Chichester but moved up here many years ago.
We arrive in Sudbury at 10:10 and I drop the group off in the small bus station before going to the free coach park next to the Waitrose store, still close to the centre but not quite as close as the bus station.
An hour later I am picking them all up and we begin the second leg of our journey towards Bury St Edmonds. Again the scenery is gentle as we pass through some gorgeous villages including Long Melford (as seen in Lovejoy) and Clare.
An hour after leaving Sudbury we arrive in Bury St Edmonds, a town I have always wanted to visit. Alas it is not to be today as I can drop in the centre but must go away to park, not leaving me any time to have a look around before we leave in two hours time. The centre looks lovely so look forward to coming back again one day for a look around.
The coach park is also the lorry park and has proper marked bays as well as toilets and a cafe. And it is free. A lot of places could learn from Suffolk about charging, or not charging, coaches to park.
We depart Bury at 14:15 and within half an hour reach Lavenham, a small town with over 200 listed buildings!

This very old town has many wood timbered buildings all leaning one way or another. I drop the group off in the centre and once again go away to park at another free coach park!!
They are visiting the town and we have also included entry into the Guildhall Museum.

Am parked at the coach park sweating buckets but no sun about! It is very muggy and I hate it. I like hot sunny weather but this is the worst for me.
