Nauders Tuesday 24 September 2013

From St Anton we drive up the Arlberg Pass and stop at the top in the A longer day today as we are going to Lake Constance in Germany and the town of Lindau.
We are away at 08:30 and instead of driving through the Arlberg Tunnel I drive over the Arlberg Pass. The pass begins in St Anton but I want to come off the motorway sooner and drive along the old road through a couple of the local towns. Plan A is to come off at Pettneu and go the way I have planned but something goes a little awry at Pettneu and I end up in a bit of a dead end! After a quick turn round I go back to the motorway and come off at St Anton wishing I hadn’t tried to be clever in the first place!

village of St Christophe, reputed to be the birthplace of Austrian ski-ing.
It is another fine day as we enjoy a 35 minute break here. There are toilets, a few hotels and cafes and some shops for everyone to enjoy.
Down the other side of the mountain is a little more bendy than the way up but we don’t seem to take long to reach the motorway again.
Once we cross the border into Germany we immediately come off and join the road into Lindau. I haven’t been here for the best part of 20 years and don’t remember much about it and I certainly don’t remember where the coach park is!
The car/coach parks are lettered/numbered and we are following the signs for P3. I reach said parking area and turn into it not realising the part i have driven into is only for cars! I can see the coaches parked but need to turn around (again!), leave the car park and then drive into the coach park. This I do but it is a fair walk across the bridge into the town so before anyone alights I ask a German driver if I can drop closer. He says I can drop by the Railway Station which rings a bell from my previous visit. I drive across the bridge onto the island that is Lindau and follow the signs to the Railway Station. Here I drop the passengers where they are only a hundred yards from both the shops and the famous harbour and then drive back to the coach park.
Hollie and I then have a walk into the town for some lunch and a quick look around before returning to the bus.
No mistakes on the way home as we drive back to the hotel after another nice day out.
As we come to Nauders most years it is always difficult trying to freshen up the itinerary each time. A lot of the trips we do have to be repeated but we always put in at least one different day and today was that day!

My friend, Del, sadly passed away this evening.
