N o driving today as 20 (plus me!) of our group are going on a boat trip to the islands.
Ivan is the skipper of the Melkior, a 50 seat boat that offers inside and outside seating as well as a chance to sunbathe on the roof! And today is once again sun bathing weather, it is boiling.
We leave just after 09:00 and sail to the resort of Lovran to pick up three more people before heading out to sea and the island of Krk.
I am sat at the back with Brian and Josie and it is wonderful. The sea breeze takes the heat away allowing me to enjoy the sun (I have my hat on today!) and relax as you can only do on a boat.
There are free soft drinks and red/white wine and we are given bread and cheese during the journey.
We arrive at the island of Krk and the resort of Njivice at 11:30. What a pretty little harbour. We are having lunch here at 13:30. Apart from the restaurants and shops by the harbour there is not a lot here but the peace and tranquility is lovely. I wish I had brought my swimming trunks as there are a couple of beaches and the water looks very inviting.
Lunch is a choice between meat and fish. I choose fish which is served up complete with head and tail. I do not normally like to perform surgery on a fish before eating it but I really enjoy this. The fish is accompanied by potaoes, mussels and calimari, all delicious. Washed down with a couple of pints, I could get used to this!
We return to the boat for our journey over to the island of Cres, arriving in the tiny resort of Beli. The old town is high above us and too far away to walk to in the 45 minutes we are staying here. As well as the small harbour there is a cafe, beach and caravan site. Most people settle for an ice cream and sit down until it is time to go.
When we arrived here three of the party dived/jumped into the sea from the top of the boat. I looked on enviously as that is exactly what I wanted to do. I settle for a choc ice to cool me down!
The wind had got up a bit and the sea was a bit choppy in places which all adds to the fun.
We leave Beli at 16:00 to begin our journey back, following closely the dramatic shoreline of Cres.
We drop off in Lovran before returning to Opatija at 19:00, an hour later than we expected! I thoroughly enjoyed today and I think everybody else did as well.
After a shower I have decided to go out again tonight and have my dinner in a restaurant I had noticed the other day.
I was sat waiting for my meal when a group of three sat on a table opposite and obviously ordered the fish. It was obvious because the waiter brought a large platter full of dead fish over to their table and they chose which ones they wanted! He did this again when the fish was cooked to show them before taking it away to fillet and serve.
I had Ravioli to start with and Fillet steak as my main course and I must say the meal was fantastic if the service painfully slow.
