The breakfast spread is always good here and something to look forward to in the morning.
Today is the day of Almabtrieb! This is hard to translate but probably the closest would be Cow Festival. It is the one day of the year when the farmers adorn their cows with floral garlands hung on their heads and bring them down from the mountain. At the bottom of town there is a large field that is normally a childrens play area but for today marquees are erected for covered benches and tables while there are also food stalls and beer stalls. They also put up a stage and a group will play all afternoon with space to dance if you want to.
After breakfast Brian, the girls and myself mooch about the hotel until 11 o'clock when we wander down to the festival. Most of the coach party are stood waiting in the road for the cows to come down. We have a chat before deciding the time is right for a drink! We are soon sat in the beer tent with four large beers in front of us and they only cost 10 Euros. Novotel Metz eat your heart out!
The atmosphere is lovely and even though a little early the beer is lovely too! The cows start coming through the town at midday and I end up taking many more photographs than I normally would of cows and farmers! It is quite a spectacle.
We also have a schnitzel with potato for lunch before walking to the nearby chairlift. I went up with Kim and Lisa with Brian. Lisa hadn't been on this before and was a little apprehensive but that all disappeared once she was on the chairlift and could enjoy the scenery and peace and quiet of gently climbing the mountain through the tall trees.
I had a relaxing rest of the day before another nice dinner. I am very tired tonight and after a coffee call it a day. Am looking forward to my bed tonight.
