Saturday 10th October Stresa

Our last day and a free day for people to enjoy Stresa at their leisure.
There has been another English coach in this week, Easton's from Norwich. I didn't see much of the driver, Fred, in the evenings but spoke most mornings. He seemed a really nice fellow.
They depart today at nine o'clock as I am having my breakfast. I say goodbye to Fred and swap brochures.
The sun is out this morning and hopefully no more rain.
It is a beautiful day with plenty of sun and blue sky and everything is so clear this morning. Sitting at breakfast Rosie said you feel like you could just reach out and touch the mountains and she is right.
I spend most of the morning catching up with this blog before walking into town. Brian and Joan Cox came here last year with Greys and brought some wine they really liked. The last time they were in the shop they gave me a label of the wine and asked if I could bring some home. No problem, I wander to the wine shop and am sold six bottles of the required wine which I take back to the coach.
I then need to go to a stationers in the main square to buy a book as I have read the one I bought with me. This shop has a stand full of English books and after choosing the one I want (a paperback) I pay €11.50 for it! It had better be good!
On my way out of the hotel earlier the gentlman on reception asked if I would be able to change some English coins into notes. I said it wouldn't be a problem but wondered why? It turns out the coins are from the local priest whose charity box is full of them and needs them changing!
Lunchtime is upon me and it wouldn't be right to not enjoy a final lunch in Italy so I have a pizza, a beer, some wine and a bit of cheese to follow!
Back at the hotel they have nearly counted the money and are 1p short of £35.00. They are looking everywhere for a penny! And there was an old half crown in there too!
I am still full up by the time dinner comes around and do not eat much. That will teach me to be a fat pig at lunchtime!
I watch the World Cup qualifier between Italy and Ireland that ends 2-2 and is a great game even if they do show adverts while the game is on.

Its now Monday evening and i have literally just stepped in the door from Jamies trips to Stesa, Its my third visit to this lovely town and I would recommend it to anyone who has never been, or worry that return visit wouldn't be as good as the first - take it from me it most definitly is, what with the lovely scenery, friendly town, superb hotel and Jamies meticulous planning and involvement the last ten days have been fun, interesting and relaxing all rolled into one - thank you Jamie, you can certainly count me in if you should decide to run this trip again!
