Tuesday 11 August Krimmler Waterfall

I haven't fueled up yet but put that right this morning on our way out of Kirchberg. I am aided by a young attendant who is keen to practise his English on me. Our short conversation was very interesting as he told me he had been to Pembroke as a soldier and here they could fire their tanks; something they are not allowed to do at home! Boys and their toys!
After leaving my new chum we drive to the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls where the water falls down a height of 1250 feet. There are viewpoints all the way up and for the more intrepid you can walk to the top in an hour and a quarter. For the less intrepid there are plenty of places to sit, look and eat.
We are staying here for 3 hours so to allow the walkers time to get to the top and back.
From here we take the Gerlos Pass over the Gerlos mountain to the Ziller Valley. This pass is not too demanding and the Ziller Valley side is stunning, arguably one of the prettiest passes in the Alps. It is an absolute pleasure driving today.
We stop in the glass making town of Rattenburg, one of the oldest in Austria. By now it is very hot and muggy and the storm clouds are gathering as the sky blackens.
Once I have dropped the passengers off I go off in search of a garage where I can top up my Go Box. The Go Box is a small box that is stuck to the windscreen of the coach and contains all of the vehicle details on a chip inside it. Much like a pay as you go phone I have to keep the credit topped up to pay the toll roads in Austria. This is mainly the motorways where there are sensors over the road that make the Go Box beep as you pass under them. One beep is good, two beeps mean you will soon be out of credit, three beeps and you are out of credit and four beeps you are shot! We are beeping four times!
I find a garage ten mimutes away and put €100 credit on. We are now back to a single beep and I am safe!
We leave Rattenburg and go back to our hotel after what has been a lovely day. We seem to have dodged the storms as they seem behind us all the time and make it back to the hotel before it rains.
Dinner is a buffet tonight accompanied by a man singing, yodelling, playing his organ and sqeezebox.

I am a newcomer to your blog site and am enjoying reading about all your travels, trials and tribulations. You have a wonderful style of writing. Please though when you are home again and have the time, could you arrange for the print to be made clearer - perhaps a darker blue? At the moment it is rather faint and very tiring for old eyes.
