Afters the rigours of Prague yesterday we have a much gentler day today. And the sun is out once more.
Once again we are away at 09:00 and once again Nicola walked the group to the bus. She is doing a grand job.
We take a leisurely drive through the pretty countryside to Lake Lipno, which we then follow for a few miles to a lay-by from where I walk them through the woods to the Devil's Walk! This is a set of very large stones that tumble from a great height down to the river below. All of the passengers manage the walk and we have nobody falling over! It is good fun to get off the bus and do something different. On the way back down there were some keen walkers and cyclists all dressed in there sports gear, looking amazed at some of the ladies gingerly walking down through the woods in their dresses and walking sticks!
Five minutes from here we stop for half an hour for toilets and coffee in Vyssy Brod, close to the river and also close to the monastry. This is one of the starting points for the canoeists and rafters.
It is a lovely sunny day now.
Martin puts 30czk (about £1.11) in a vending machine for a bottle of iced tea and one after one all of the bottles start coming out!
I wasn't sure where the monastry was located and before we depart I read out some information about the town and realise I am looking at and parked outside the monastry! Noe I know!
I take them into the town to visit the market stalls but this isn't the best move as the stalls are mostly selling rubbish and the oriental (Vietnamese?) stallholders are too much in your face.
Mrs Gunner manages to buy a gnome and he proudly sits on the coach with a seat belt around him. Welcome to the group Stanley!
From here we follow the river Vltava to Rozemberk where we stop for lunch. There are now lots of people on the river and it is a fantastic sight.
I enjoy a nice lunch sat by the river looking towards the castle on the opposite bank in a lovely small pretty town. Ideal for a lunch stop.
I really enjoy the drive from here back to Cesky Krumlov as we follow the river all of the way and it is so colourful with all of the boats. It looks to be great fun and we pass many camps along the riverbank where they camp overnight.
I don't know if anybody else enjoyed the ride as I think they were all asleep!
We come to Cesky Krumlov and then I drive on to Ceske Budejovice (the home of Budweiser beer) where I drop them close to the centre before driving off to park the coach.
They are all armed with a map and it is only a short walk into the large main square. I will be back in two hours to pick them up.
It is very hot now.
I go back to meet them at 16:45 and they are all waiting. Susan has sadly been robbed of her purse, in the church of all places, and it contents of about £100 worth of Czech money. Luckily she had no cards or passport in the purse.
Not a nice way to end your day out. She seems ok about it though and puts it down to one of thiose things. Sadly there is not much else you can do as you need a copy of the police report to make an insurance claim and that will take a while to find the police station and then a policeman who speaks English! And when you make a claim the policy excess will take up £50 of your loss.
We are back in Cesky Krumlov within half an hour and I once again drop them close to the hotel with only a down hill walk back.
Once they are all off I make a u-turn in the junction. As I swing round there is a loud clatter and I can see a black plastic object bouncing in the road. I stop and look at a lady watching me and point to myself and she nods! I have knocked off the traffic light shield! I have to move as I am blocking the road and as I complete my turn I look over and Martin has his thumb up and Mrs McQuaid has a black plastic object in her hand! Has Martin gieven me the thumbs up to say don't worry all is alright, or has he had a good day or well done for getting round without shunting. I later found out it was the latter!
Once turned I couldn't stop so I carried on feeling like a criminal. If needed the police will know where to find me, or rather where the coach is.
I fuel up ready for the journey home and then park up until Thursday morning as tomorrow is a free day.
Once again I decide to go out tonight mainly as I want to be on my own and have a bit of space.
I find a bar that is selling Budweiser at 81p a pint!! Happy days!
