Thursford Christmas Spectacular Wednesday 07 December 2011

I am taking the group into Norwich this morning before we have lunch in the hotel and then go to the Christmas Spectacular this evening.

Before we leave at 09;30 I have a chat with another driver who went to the show last night and passed on a few tips as I haven’t been to it before.
It doesn’t take long to drive into the centre of Norwich and drop the passengers off by the castle and then go on and park close to the football stadium. One of the passengers came with me as he wanted to buy some Christmas presents in the Norwich club shop for his son.
I went for a stroll but didn’t go far as it was freezing! The sun is out but the wind cuts you in half.
I pick them all up at 12:30 and five minutes later we are back at the hotel, in plenty of time for our 13:00 lunch.
We are sat eating at lunch and during the starters the fire alarm goes off. Nobody seems too concerned and nobody gets up from the table until the staff appear and ask everyone to go outside!
The coach is parked at the entrance and I open the door for people to sit in there as it is even colder than earlier.
The fire brigade turn up and two firemen go inside only to return a short while later giving us the all clear to carry on with our lunch.
After lunch we have some free time before joining the coach at 16:00 to go to Thursford.
I am reading in my room when the bloody fire alarm goes off again! I go out along with everyone else only to be told it is a false alarm.
In my haste I have left my room key in the room! I soon find someone to let me in!
We are away at four and after taking a while to get out of Norwich due to the traffic I am soon nearing Thursford.
The show is at the Thursford Steam Museum and it is way out in the country. I am glad of my sat nav and the chat I had earlier with the other driver as it is pitch black but I know what signs and landmarks to look for.
We arrive at 17:15 which is about perfect as the afternoon show has just finished and we manage to get along the narrow approach road before too much traffic comes the other way.
The show begins at 19:00 so we have a little time to look around the couple of shops and also visit Santa’s Magic Kingdom. This is a decorated hall mainly for children but I found it was great for grown ups too. The colourful lights and displays are gorgeous and well worth the entrance money (£4.00 but free to bus drivers!!).
There are three cafes on site as well as a licensed bar so plenty of places for a sandwich and a cup of tea.
I wasn’t going to watch the show but as I haven’t been before thought I should see it to tell others about it. Normally it is not my kind of thing.
I am so glad I did watch it as the show was absolutely fabulous, one of the best shows I have seen and comparable to anything you would see in the West End.
The dancers we magnificent as were the musicians and singers, the comedian was funny (not all are!) and the illusionist made you wonder how he did it.
I don’t really know what I was expecting but it certainly wasn’t a show as professional as this.
I can’t wait to return next year.
The drive back to Norwich took an hour and we were back by 11:15.
