Nauders Friday 24 August 2012

Friday 24 August 2012

We are off to Nauders today, my favourite place, for a ten day tour.

Leaving Petersfield at 06:30 we have pick-ups in Liphook and Guildford before making our way to Dover via a short stop at Clackett Lane for papers and toilets.

We are crossing the channel by ferry and are booked on the 11:15 sailing. This is a little later than usual but it did mean leaving the local area an hour later.

We have allowed plenty of time to reach Dover as it is a bank holiday weekend and expectthe port to be busy.

It is!

There is a long queue as we approach the port and then another one as we near the ticket booths.

Once at the ticket booths the jam disappears and we only have one car in front of us although the DFDS ticket booths are a lot busier (we are travelling with P & O).
Considering how busy it was getting into the port I am pleasantly surprised to be told we can go on the 10:15 sailing.
So we are loaded pretty much immediately onto the Pride of Burgundy and it is not long after that Brian and I are tucking into a calorie friendly fat boys breakfast! The pleasures of sailing!
The crossing was very calm and on time and we are soon unloaded onto the motorway south.

The journey to our overnight hotel in Metz is not very exciting and takes about five hours driving plus a couple of stops.
We arrive at the hotel, Novotel Metz Harauncourt, at 18:30 allowing plenty of time to change before dinner at 20:00.

After dinner am ready for my bed.
