Crookhorn Ski-ing Sunday 17 February 2013

Up at 06:00, breakfast at 06:45 and away by 07:30! No hanging about this week!
Today the group are ski-ing at Alpendorf in St Johann am Pongau. They will change resorts during the week but use this one on the first day because the ski hire shop is here and if anyone needs to change boots or ski’s then it is best done today. And there will definitely be so boot changes.
Normally in previous years we are the first coach here but today are only the fifth! How early did the others start!
But at least we beat Steve, our leader here! His friend Elliot has joined the trip but as there was no room on the coach he flew into Munich and drove to Pass Lueg. This has the added bonus of having a car on site in case of hospital and doctor visits. I don’t mind using the bus, which we have done a few times, but this does hold everyone else up at the same time. As Steve pointed out it is probably cheaper hiring the car than the cost of any taxi’s. Hopefully it will be like taking an umbrella out with you just in case. If you don’t have the brolly it rains but if you do will stay fine!
It is a nice drive here, passing the castle used in “Where Eagles Dare”, and only takes about 30 minutes.
It takes a while to sort everyone out with correct ski’s, poles, boots and teacher! Crookhorn don’t use ski guides in the resort as their teachers are fully trained to teach and guide. Also Chris and Simon will be taking groups.
It is not as cold as last year (-14!) but the temperature is saying it is -7! It doesn’t feel quite that cold but it is not warm either.
We sweep the coach and take out the centre carpet before I settle down to do some work. I don’t get as much as I wanted done as I have been playing about on facebook talking to my mate in Melbourne. It is only 35 degrees out there!
Not too much for us to do today so at lunchtime we go off to a local hotel for a bite to eat. After eating my fat boys pizza I feel totally bloated and won’t do this again. That’s a lie as I probably will but don’t feel like it at the moment!
The kids are back by 04:30 and we are soon on our way back to the hotel.
A beer before dinner is always good and so was dinner tonight. I had pork fillets with potatoes and veg and only a few of the obligatory chips!
The apple strudel for dessert was fresh out of the oven and absolutely delicious. Thank you Steffi.
After dinner it was quiz night and I joined some of the older lads to form a team called Amos’s Lips! Don’t ask please!
We won!
