A fairly long drive today to the Austrian town of
Lermoos, situated not far from the German border at Fussen.
We depart Bruhl at 08:00 and I expect to arrive in
Lermoos between 16:45 and 17:00. The main problem I have is the numerous
roadworks I have to drive through. Germany is a bit of a nightmare to drive
because of this and today there will be lots of lorries on the road as well
which can slow you down especially on the two lane motorways.
All is well to our first stop at Damstadt services past
Ludwigshafen but from here it slowly goes downhill! The roads are extremely
busy and I do get held up in the roadworks which is a right pain! I wanted to
make Grublingen services, between Stuttgart and Ulm, for 13:15 but only make it
to the services half an hour before there at Sindelfingen Wald services. I
arrive here at 13:40 so am the best part of an hour down.
We leave here at 14:40 and it is less than three hours to
our hotel. I hit some more traffic before turning off the A8 onto the A7 towards
the Austrian border at Fussen.
I have another short comfort stop where I call the hotel
to say I will be there in an hours time at about 18:00.
Should be plain sailing from here.
No chance!
I manage the remainder of the A7 without too many
problems and as that road ends I am in Austria on a decent road that shouldn’t
take to long to Lermoos.
No chance!
We soon hit a traffic jam that doesn’t seem to be moving
at all. It is very frustrating as we are only 11 miles from the hotel. There
must be an accident somewhere.
The car in front is not very big and the four adults sat
inside are putting together a barbecue so must be expecting a long wait!
They eventually pull off the road and away from the
traffic for a bit of a burn up while we stay sat in the queue.
By the time we reach the Edelweiss Hotel in Lermoos it is
19:10!
The hotel man is waiting to show me where to park and
unload and in a very short space of time all luggage and folk are gone.
This is my first time at this hotel and it is massive. It
is a traditional Tyrolean chalet type building with lots of bits added during
the years.
Dinner is served between 18:00 and 20:00 and you can come
down at your leisure during those times which is very relaxing and easy to
organise. I don’t know why more hotels don’t operate this system.
The key cards are like a credit card that you just hold
against the lock and it magically opens! I had a bit of trouble opening mine
but got there in the end!
We are all down by eight o’clock and enjoy a lovely meal.
There is an extensive buffet to start with followed by soup served at the table
and then a choice of four main courses again served to the table. After this it
is back to the buffet for dessert with lots of lovely puddings and an excellent
cheese board.
Homemade ice cream is then served if required followed by
tea or coffee. Not bad at all.
I have a couple of drinks with Barry and Jayne after
dinner and then it is bedtime.
I haven’t unpacked yet so set about this when I return to
my room only to discover I have left my book in the hotel at Bruhl last night!
What a doughnut!
And I only have the one book with me. I normally bring
two in case I either finish one or don’t like the one I’m reading but didn’t
the one time I need two!
How will I get myself off to sleep?!!
Not much to worry about there as I go out like a light!
