We are off to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, today
and are meeting our guide in the city centre on what is another very hot day.
We depart at 09:00 with plenty of time to reach the city
and our guide, Roc, for 10:00.
Well I thought so but a couple of miles from our turn off
we stop and wait for about half an hour until we have crawled past the accident
that caused our hold up. There is a lorry in the field below us and a hole in
the central reservation barrier so I presume he came across from the other
carriageway, into oncoming traffic and then off the motorway and down the hill!
I hope everyone is okay.
I have been to Ljubljana before but am not sure where to
meet Roc so am entrusting myself to the dreaded sat nav! Luckily it gets me to
the road I want (albeit after a few false turns!)but tells me to turn right
instead of left and as soon as I do my phone is ringing. Roc has seen me turn
the wrong way and is trying to call me back the right way. I did realise the
mistake and within a couple of minutes had driven around the block and to where
our guide is waiting.
Roc says the tour will be on foot and he will take it
easy as it is so hot. He is as good as his word as he shows us all the centre
of this beautiful city at a very leisurely pace. Our first stop is Dragon
Bridge sometimes called Mother in Law bridge we are informed! I really like it
here as it is a very pretty place without any traffic, which is now prohibited
from the centre. There are no cars, busses or trams only a few electric buggy’s
taking people about. Gorgeous!
As well as the city’s beauty Roc is a fantastic guide and
you’ve just got to love his name!
There is a big market in the centre selling delicious
looking fruit and also a milk machine. The milk machine is a large vending
machine that dispenses milk like a tin of pop. Roc says he tells the American
tourists there is a cow inside! I bet he tells the Americans the opposite.
After the excellent tour we have some free time before
meeting up at 15:30 where I walk the group back to the coach and then back to
the hotel, arriving back by 16;30.
Before walking back we stop for a drink at a cafe that has a whole menu on different teas!
Once back at the hotel I offer to take anyone who wants
up to the castle and have twenty takers. It is a short but steep climb up to
the castle but worth it for the views alone. While we are up here Deb, Hollie
and Sophie venture off to the toboggan run.
After dinner another crazy golf tournament is on the
cards while Dot and I go for a quiet drink.
