A nice easy day today with a trip to nearby Lake Bohinj.
I would normally do this trip on the last day but tomorrow was the only day I
could book the Lipica Stud Farm and see the rehearsals.
I have provisionally booked a boat ride for everybody via
the internet and all are going.
We arrive at the lake by 09:30 and in plenty of time for
our cruise at 10:00. There are a couple of hotels and cafes here as well as
some delightful walks in the surrounding woods.
Once I have parked the bus I go over to the man in the
boat hut to pay for our trip but am told it is not with him but with another
company although they use the same jetty. That is handy I thought, as there is
only one jetty! I didn’t realise there were more than one boat operating on this
very unspoilt lake.
Off they all go for the cruise to the other end of the
lake where I shall meet them. Where the boat moors si at the edge of a large
camp/caravan site and they will have to walk through the site to meet me parked
on the road. I have called Hollie to explain where I am and she can lead the
group to me.
I will have to wait by the bus as I’m on the road (a very
quiet road mind) and may have to move.
The boat docks off they all get and I wait, and wait, and
wait a bit more! It is only a couple of hundred yards but they are nowhere to
be seen. I call my assistant and ask where they are only to be told they are
following my instructions but can’t find me. I tell her she couldn’t be
following my instructions otherwise she would be with me now!!
After a bit of explaining they finally appear and we are
soon loaded for the short drive up to the cable car that will go to high up the
Vogel Mountain in just a few minutes. Not everyone goes up but those that do
enjoy some fantastic views from the top. As you leave the cable car there is a
platform that looks down to the lake and it juts out from the edge of the
mountain. That is not too bad but it is made up of metal grilles which give a
sensation of being very high, and even though we are high up it feels higher. I
stand back a bit here as it is too high for me and it feels like my you know
whats are in my tummy!!
Hollie and the girls don’t seem to mind as they gleefully
look over the edge. It is a stunning view though. It is also extremely hot today
and after I have had a drink with my little entourage I leave them having
something to eat and return to the bottom.
We are back in Bled by lunchtime where my lot go off to
the lido on the other side of the lake and I go off for a quiet lunch in a cafe
in the shopping centre. Sitting outside I enjoy a plate of spaghetti with
garlic and olive oil. Delightful.
My plan is to work in the afternoon but even though a do
some work I do more reading and sleeping!
Hollie, who is an excellent swimmer, didn’t really enjoy
the lido. It is a marked off area of the lake with platforms to jump in off, a
slide and lots of sun loungers. She went in the water and put her hand under
thinking she was touching a leaf when in fact it was a fish! She wasn’t too
keen on that and promptly jumped out wishing she was in a swimming pool
proper!!
After dinner we had a walk along the promenade and to the
little tourist train that runs around the lake. This was great going round as
it got dark although a touch uncomfortable!
They all went off playing crazy golf afterwards while Dot
and I went for a quiet drink.
