Breakfast at seven again before leaving at seven thirty. There has been quite a bit of snow overnight and although we have a slope to negotiate to get out of the hotel we should be able to do it without the need for chains. This is soon made easier when a snow plough drives back and forth clearing the road.
Today they are ski-ing in Flachau and once again we are the second coach here.
I spend most of the morning composing spreadsheets for my yearly accounts.
We are once again given a voucher and at lunchtime we go to collect our €7 but are told to come back after 14:00. We do accept two lift passes so we can enjoy lunch at the top of the mountain.
The weather is not as bright as yesterday and has snowed all morning.
We take a very pretty but cold ride up the mountain and join a long queue for lunch. It is heaving but our queue is moving and after about ten minutes we are just about to pick up a tray and order our food and drink. I am day off today and can almost touch the beer I am going to enjoy!
My phone rings.
It is Steve and he is at the bottom of the mountain needing transport to a hospital with an injured child.
We are on our way, lunch will have to wait! I am sure a couple of fat boys can do without feeding for a while!
The injured party, Haydon, is in the medical room at a ski area close by. We take Steve and Stuart to retrieve Haydon and then begin the journey to Hallein hospital. He has hurt his shoulder and is obviously in a lot of pain.
Before going to the hospital we must first return to the hotel to collect some paperwork.
Once we are at the hotel it is decided that Steve will take David’s car and drive Haydon to the hospital.
We return to Flachau with Stuart and have a belated lunch at 15:00.
After ski-ing we take the group into the nearby town of Wagrain where they will have the chance to go shopping for an hour. We join the staff in a bar for a drink. Food and drink seems to rule our life!!
We are back at the hotel at 18:50 and dinner is at 19:00. No time for a shower but time enough for a beer!
Steve is not back yet.
Dinner is chips with curry or chips with meatballs or chips with salad! I think there was some rice too!
Steve is back at 19:30 with the news that Haydon has broken his collarbone and is having an operation this evening. He will probably be in hospital for a couple of days.
We have a quiz after dinner which has been organised by Chris and is good fun. Brian and I join in with different groups and the group I am in are well in front going into the third round of four when we are robbed by a dubious marking decision and end up in third place!
I do learn that the highest mountain in Europe is in Russia and not France, Mount Elbris being higher than Mont Blanc. This caused a stir, not because of any discrepancy in height but whether Russia is in Europe.
It is snowing again tonight.
