Lake Garda Saturday 04 August 2012

Saturday 04 August

We are up early to take the coach to the garage, which is close by, so I can fuel up and top the drinks machine up with water.

We arrive at the garage and there are loads of young lads in their cars all over the forecourt. They must have been out all night at some rave or whatever young Germans do and this was their pit stop on the way home. All the cars were local and lots of the boys were drinking bottles of beer!
We have to ask a couple to move so I can reach the pump.
We manage to fill both water and fuel and be back in time for our breakfast.
Also manage to say hello to David before leaving.

At eight o’clock we are away and straight onto the motorway as I now know the way!
We are going back a different way via Metz and Reims through France and at last we have a traffic free day!
We reach the Calais in time for our train and a short stop in the terminal.
Our last leg goes okay, all the taxi’s are waiting and we are finished by early evening.

I have been looking forward to this trip for a while and although a lot went right there was also a lot that didn’t go so right.

The overnight hotel was good as was the main hotel in respect of location and rooms.
The weather was excellent and our couple of days out were good.
But when it came to meal times it was not good at all.

I came to look at the hotel before bringing the coach and liked what I saw but I didn’t eat there, even if I had I would have been served from the main menu and treated differently.
I have been to Italy many times and the one thing you can normally guarantee is good, correct service in the restaurant with a proud maitre’d in charge and making everything tick.

This hotel was the complete opposite and is the worst I have had for service and food in Italy and one of the worst I have experienced.
The worse thing for me though was the attitude of the senior (?) staff in the restaurant who were not interested in us and who would not listen to anything said to them.

How can you run a hotel and be a part owner but not have any say in the running of that hotel?!

I would never return here with a group and if anyone reading this is taking a group to the Splendid Mayer Hotel in Desenzano then all I can say is it is not splendid and I would look elsewhere.

Greys ought to be looking for another agent to put their holidays together for them, before they lose any customers with a report like this.

We went on this trip and had a great time, weather to die for,a coach full of friendly people,a good driver who got us there and back safely(most important)Hollie who kept us fed and watered through out, fantastic food(outside the hotel!)very polite and friendly italian people, and oh! those towns ...salo.....simonie....riva...Garda. Apart from the fore mentioned problems this was a great holiday...my only gripe...we had to come home!
